Solar Eclipse

Beth Hoeckel

Beth’s work has an effortless nostalgia to it, mixed with a surrealism that somehow still feels natural within the scene.

Case in point: Solar Eclipse feels like it could have been cut from another era’s vacation magazine. Sun-faded and completely at ease with itself, it opens into an expanse that fits neatly with a mid-century idea of summer. And yet, what exactly are these cliffs or dunes? Where did the eclipse come from? And why doesn’t any of it feel like a bigger deal?

That tension between the ordinary and the surreal runs through much of her work. Beth cuts from vintage photographs and printed matter, then recomposes them until different worlds overlap without friction. People drift into vast landscapes. Domestic scenes brush up against cosmic ones. Nothing is announced as strange, even though it clearly is.

And maybe that’s the trick. The images don’t ask for awe or explanation. They just sit there, cool and unbothered, giving air to just a little bit of magic.

My wife and I love Folk Coffee Club.

Folk does intentionality right. The flow of art, music, stories and of course, coffee, is a thoughtful conversation. It's a great curated experience for any coffee lover.

Folk has been the best upgrade to our morning routine.

The coffee beans are always top quality and it's so fun learning more about their origin. Folk adds a layer of thoughtfulness and detail to our coffee ritual and we anxiously await the next shipment each month.
